Whatever your hair colour, it’s fun to go a little bit brighter for summer, and lightly sun-kissed waves are the dream. But taking the plunge can feel like a big commitment, what with the time and money spent covering up roots.
Well, we have the answer! At Mod we have been perfecting a classic colouring technique – balayage.
What is Balayage?
The term balayage comes from the French word for ‘sweeping’ and refers to the way the colour is applied in long, sweeping strokes to create natural-looking lightened locks.
How is it created?
Colour is applied freehand to the surface of the hair in light strokes, gradually becoming more saturated towards the roots. The effect is naturally cascading colour which spreads out across the length of your hair.
What sets it apart?
You can go as subtle or as striking as you like, and it will still look beautifully natural because of the way it is layered on. It also works for dark hair colours as the sweeping stokes avoid the lighter stones looking stripy and artificial.
Why is it so popular at the moment?
Made famous by celebrities and their red carpet curls (think Rihanna and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), balayage is the ideal way to achieve a brighter, textured look without roots growing out and looking blunt.
In fact, one of the best things about balayage is that it gets even better as it grows out!
